Upgrade dvd5 to 6 dvd drive not working

I have DVD 5 on my HPdv6500z cst laptop running win 7. I am converting home movies from DVD to avi's. The software works great in version 5 however ver 6 will not read the title and does not show up. I have both dvd 5 and 6 installed on the laptop so if I go back to 5 it works well.

I unistalled both DVDfab 5 and 6 and fresh installed ver 6 still the same issue. What are the differences between 5 and 6 any idea? Any idea why dvdfab 5 works and 6 does not?
