Default Converting Mpg-Files to Avi (xvid)

I have some mpeg2 files which are in 16:9 format.
I want to convert them to an avi-file.

I have chosen "File to mobile" and then "Generic"

When converting a DVD to AVI there is an column showing if the DVD is
4:3 or 16:9 .

I am missing this columen , if I want to convert a mpeg2 file.

Therefore I can't chose the correct frame resolution for 16:9 format.
I can only chose frame resolution for 4:3 format.

The column is missing because the information on aspect ratio is contained in the DVD-Video IFO files, which the MPEG-2 files do not have. What happens if you make the conversion anyway with one of the available setting choices?

Thanks for quick answer.

If I do this I get a video in 4.3 aspect ratio.
Means the video has black stripes on the top and at the bottom .
This is good for a TV with 4:3 but not for 16:9.

If I go to common settings and click on the info button ,
then I can see that the file is detected as 16/9 aspect ratio.

Tell me the exact profile you are using and I will look at it.

Hi ,

I have some other MPG-Files where the frame resolution
is calculated correct.

So I must check the difference.
This may take a few days.

I want to thank you for your quick response .

It sounds like the header/tags of this file are incorrect or missing. If they are, Fab has no way to tell the aspect ratio.

To check the header/tags download either MediaInfo or ABC AVI Tag editor and the tag/header info will pop up when you hover the mouse over the file.

Default mpg to avi conversion aspect problem

Hi,
I seem to be having the same sort of issue.
I have a mpg which was produced from videoredo after recording a tv program and using videoredo to remove the commercials.

The resulting output videoredo mpg file plays correctly using vlc 1.0.2 with the aspect ratio displaying as default at 16:9.

When I use the generic.avi.xvid.audiocopy in File to Mobile option (which i've used successfully with the DVD to Mobile option on my existing DVDs) the resulting avi file has its width reduced.

The dvdfab resulting avi file is reporting 1.433 display aspect ratio at 688x480 and the original (videoredo output)mpg file was reporting 16:9 display aspect ratio at 720x576 using the MediaInfo tool.

The videoredo input file is the Windows 7 .wtv file but since vlc can play the resulting output, from videoredo, correctly this didn't seem like a part of the problem.

I've been fiddling around with this for quite some time today and was hoping someone has had the same problem and solved it.

Thanks!

System info:
Windows 7 x64 Enterprise Evaluation
Intel i7 6Gb
DvdFab 6.0.7.0 (file to mobile lifetime license)

Anyone successful with playing AVI files from DVD2Mobile on Hauppauge MediaMVP? Anyone know how I can enable BVOPS in DVD2Mobile>AVI?

I have used DVD to DVD (Platinum v6) to create MPEG output of main movie. I then edit MPG file in Video ReDo and output MPG, then import MPG and convert to AVI using VirtualDub 1.8.8.

I watch media on my TV using Hauppauge Media MVP. The MPG output files from DVD to DVD play just fine. The edited MPG files from Video ReDo play just fine. The AVI files from Virtual Dub play just fine. The AVI files from DVD to Mobile do not, they appear in slow motion and the sound is low and slow. I have tried as many different settings as I can but can't get an AVI to play on Media MVP using DVD to Mobile.

Using MediaInfo the only differences that appear meaningful to me are: (1) sound--the VDub file is 2-channel sound and DVD2Mobile AVI file is 6-channel, and (2) BVOPS--yes on VDub file and no on DVD2Mobile AVI file.

Thank you for any help. If this is offtopic/hijack please forgive and I will create a new forum topic.

Cheers!

Same issue here with DVDFab version 6.1.2.0
mpg file from videoredo, Gspot shows aspect ratio as 16:9, but File-to-Mobile only allows 4:3 options.

300K SAMPLE FILE at here

GSpot screenshot here

Hope that helps, Cheers

Default File to Mobile Option Aspect ratio detection fault

Hi,
I've sent samples and info through to support and that info has been sent on to the tech people (that's as much information I have been given after 4 or 5 emails).
After testing various mpeg streams from video redo, the same result is produced always in 4:3 aspect but checking the headers shows they are correct at 16/9 before the transcoding and the other program I use 'autogk' detects the correct aspect ratio and produces the correct aspect ratio files.
I'm hoping they will address this problem after the blue-ray implementation is up and running and that is why I haven't heard back from the tech support people yet, but since I haven't heard back that is pure supposition.
AutoGK works great although I've always had some issue with audio sync when transcoding some shows and I was hoping the file to mobile option from DVDFab would fix that problem, which it does but leaves the video at 4:3... hehe can't win it seems.
